About the artist
Zulu Abassa
"Everything starts with umwelt the world as it is perceived, not as it is."
Self-taught and raised in Addis Ababa, Zulu's eye was trained in the markets and hand-painted walls of Ethiopia. Now based in Gainesville, FL, he creates oil pastel and acrylic works that capture the emotional weight of a moment, the light, the longing, the unspoken.
